We have a special program that partners libraries with schools and we use a prefix for the district (like SAV for Savannah) combined with their student lunch card number (which is unique within that district and which the students already know). We use a special permission group with its own circ rules for this and we do not issue physical cards. Some of the schools issue physical cards that show their school ID/lunch card, but many do not.
