Keen to hear others' views and experiences on this.

I can only report that when we connect to charge in very cold weather, well 
below freezing, our Renault Zoe runs its heat pump - which is very 
definitely audible outside the car - for several minutes while the car 
continues to indicate that it's "negotiating" with the EVSE. This is 
presumably to warm the battery before it starts the charge. 

It doesn't often get that cold here, so I've only seen this a couple of 
times.  

I haven't noticed whether the car derives the energy for the heating from 
the EVSE or from the battery.  I hope it's the former.
