There are only two Leaf motors. The EM61 was used up to about 2013, had stronger magnets (more torque, less rpm) and was connected to the inverter by a short cable.
The EM57 has been in all Leafs since and introduced the 'stack' arrangement with Inverter, Charger/DC-DC and Power distribution box all bolted directly on top. It's a bit smaller and about 5Kg lighter. It appears that Nissan were able to use cheaper magnets, but maintain the same, or better efficiency. Even an original Gen1 Leaf inverter has a power stage that's been shown to be capable of about 140KW. The 80KW limit was based on how hard they wanted to push the battery. The current Gen3 inverter uses the same FS800R07A2E3 IGBT module as the BMW I3 and is rated at 800A per phase. It's firmware limited to 110, or 160KW (not bhp) depending on the battery.
