Toyota probably knows they won’t make money on EVs for a long time, and are
trying to eek out as much profit as they can out of ICE while the rest of
the industry buries itself pushing the technology.  Either they’re left as
the only ICE car maker, with compelling gas products, or they watch other
companies fail trying to go electric and reap the collateral benefit of a
matured supply chain.
