Yeah, it's a problem. He's not only scaring away people from *building* Teslas, but also people from *buying* them. I have nothing against Tesla itself. Even though they don't make a vehicle that suits my needs, they make mostly-well-designed cars, and they've advanced EVs enormously. So I hate seeing Musk trash Tesla's reputation. In one US study, Tesla fell from the second-best-perceived automaker in 2021 to the second-worst in 2024. (The worst was Volkswagen.)* Most business bigwigs keep their controversial views to themselves, but Musk would probably tell you that his "honesty" and "openness" are among his greatest virtues. And if anyone at Tesla suggested otherwise, he'd no doubt fire that person on the spot. *In the same 2024 study, the Axios Harris corporate reputation ranking poll, the two lowest ranked corporations of any type were the Trump Organization (#100) and X / Twitter (#99).
