John, you may be discovering the fly-in-the-ointment concerning poorly designed, cheaply assembled China electronics. Probably not what you want for a critical application such as a major vehicle protection system.

Back in late 2020, Tim Economu offered an open source BMS/cell module assembly project that he had worked up. It provides for construction of cell holders with integrated BMS electronics, but likely could be adapted to wire into a larger pack.
