Tesla has just raised prices by as much as $6,000. The base Model 3 didn't get an increase, but its price just had a $2,000 boost in March. That's an increase of $9,000 from a year ago. For comparison: Chevrolet Bolt: $26,595 (Range 259mi) Nissan Leaf: $27,400 (Range 149mi) Tesla Model 3: $46,990 (Range 278mi) MODEL Y: Tesla pushed the price up $3,000, so the cheapest Model Y is now $65,990. That's over $20,000 more than the price last March! I had to look 3 times because at first - and second - I couldn't believe it. For comparison: Chevrolet Bolt EUV $28,195 (Range 247mi) Hyundai Kona: $35,295 (Range 258mi) Kia EV6: $40,900 (Range 232mi) VW ID4: $42,525 (Range 280mi) (shorter range at $41,230) Ford Mustang Mach E: $43,895 (Range 247mi) Tesla Model Y: $65,990 (Range 330mi) The Y has significantly more range (330mi) than the competition, but wow, you sure do pay for it. Some people will say the Model 3 and Y are worth the extra bucks, and maybe that's true. I also expect that it will be tough to get the base models of most EVs offered in the US, so their real world prices will be higher. Still, the traditional automakers seem to be making an effort to hold the line on prices, and Tesla doesn't. So those "extra bucks" are getting more extra all the time. FWIW, in Europe, you can get a Dacia Spring EV for under US$21,000 (before incentives), but you have to live with a range of 140mi.
