I didn't mean to denigrate Ovshinsky, or to put too much blame on him. He
accomplished a great deal.

I can't find it now, so I might be remembering incorrectly, but I'm pretty
sure I've read a quotation from him - his own words - that indicated he was
later rueful about his own naivete in dealing with GM.

This may be it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_R._Ovshinsky

"Sales of GM-Ovonics batteries were later taken over by GM manager and
critic of CARB John Williams, leading Ovshinsky to wonder whether his
decision to sell to GM had been naive."

The Wiki reference for that statement is to Shnayerson's book "The Car That
Could." I may have read it there originally. Regrettably I can't get my
hands on that book right now to check.

GM's control of NiMH was a major setback for EVs, that's for sure. I won't
forgive them either.

I agree. I was trying to keep it clean. The word I was really thinking of
also ends with ery, but starts with F.
