Yeah,
I think I may qualify for the highly distinguished and coveted crusty
curmudgeons club.My first EV was a genuine lead sled.A used Centurion AKA as a
converted Nissan-SX200. A creation of the OPEC crisis.
Equipped with PCM controller that emitted a 2khz sound as you but the metal to
the petal (mechanically linked to a 5k pot) and pulled those hefty 300+ amps
from a very heavy pack of lead deep cycle batteries. To juice the DC series
motor. It was slow and had no regen. Oh and charging - what fun was that back
then. SOC measuring & balancing & specific gravity checks and watering. All for
the range of an ICE car with 1 gallon of gas if everything was done right.
It gave me the infamous EV grin. Been hooked on EV's since then despite the
hassles. Having owned 7 EV's I like to think this helped pushed the effort
forward.
Cheers,
Danny Ames

You younguns weren't around then, but we crusty curmudgeons remember a half
century and more back, when the electric utilities were pretty interested in
electric vehicles.  They were a regulated monopoly and had plenty of extra
capacity.  If they squinted just right, they could see dollar signs floating
around up there, aaaaaaalmost ripe for the plucking.

If you were a small company building (converting) EVs that cost 3 to 10
times what a comparable ICEV cost, just about the only customers you could
really count on to lay out the green for them were those electric utilities.
IIRC, most of Bob Aronson's infamous "elephant on roller skates"* Mars and
Mars II lead sled conversions went to utilities.

Ah, those were the days.  :-\

I am the one with no secrets. They [the Chinese government]
