Around here, the current price for drilling a 4" water well is $25/foot including PVC casing. Extra for cementing off the less desirable water layers. Well drillers do not expect to find very thick rock layers here; it would be higher for thick layers of rock. The cost is not directly proportional to material removed; there is significant set up and transport cost. Around here, the typical well is drilled around 300' in about two days; it takes at a day or so to move drilling rig from one set up to another. Some water has to be brought in. A mud circulating system set up. Job sites might be 20-50 miles apart. Etc.
