Yeah, nice EV, isn't it?  It might even be able to get me back into VWs. :-)

The range is decent, the size isn't outrageous, at first glance it looks 
reasonably practical, and the price is pretty good for what it is.  It's 
also a fairly nice-looking car.

But the EU requires that in 2021 VW meet a CO2 emissions fleet average of 95 
grams per km.  That's the equivalent of burning 4.1 liters of gasoline per 
100km (57mpg).  If they want to keep selling their big, high-profit SUVs in 
Europe, they're going to need to build and sell a lot of EVs.  So they 
probably can't spare any for us.

Besides, GM already has trouble selling Bolts, even with big incentives, and 
the ID.3 looks pretty similar in many ways.  It's tough to imagine that VW 
would sell enough of those here to make it worth the cost of reworking it to 
comply with US FMVSS.
