I looked into these a few years ago.  IIRC, none of them bore a brand name 
that I recognized.

Some suggested using simple wall warts for charging, which I guess implied 
that they had some kind of charging regulation in a n internal BMS.  I did 
note that some were boasting that they had balancing BMSes, which I assumed 
meant that others didn't.  

My guess was (and is) that most of them came from the same 2 or 3 Chinese 
factories, and just had various different brand labels pasted on before they 
left.  Maybe a decent BMS was optional.  All guesses, though.

In the end, I didn't see any that I thought I could trust at a price I was 
willing to pay.

I don't know what the state of these "drop-ins"  is now.

I will say that I've had good results with small (10ah) LiFePO4 batteries 
from Ping.  These aren't advertised as drop-ins.  They're a bit expensive, 
and aren't capable of high power, and the chargers Ping supply don't seem 
very reliable (2 out of 3 have failed).  But the capacities seem to be 
holding up well.
