I looked into these a few years ago. IIRC, none of them bore a brand name that I recognized. Some suggested using simple wall warts for charging, which I guess implied that they had some kind of charging regulation in a n internal BMS. I did note that some were boasting that they had balancing BMSes, which I assumed meant that others didn't. My guess was (and is) that most of them came from the same 2 or 3 Chinese factories, and just had various different brand labels pasted on before they left. Maybe a decent BMS was optional. All guesses, though. In the end, I didn't see any that I thought I could trust at a price I was willing to pay. I don't know what the state of these "drop-ins" is now. I will say that I've had good results with small (10ah) LiFePO4 batteries from Ping. These aren't advertised as drop-ins. They're a bit expensive, and aren't capable of high power, and the chargers Ping supply don't seem very reliable (2 out of 3 have failed). But the capacities seem to be holding up well.
