From: evln via EV <[email protected]> >Why is Lawrence replacing his 12V aux battery?
I wonder as well. My 2013 Leaf is still running fine on its original 12v battery. >only some li-ion batteries have internal circuitry to handle the voltage & >charging >differences between li-ion & PbSO4. That's what I've found as well. I have done "post mortems" on three of these 12v lithium replacement batteries. One had a BMS, and the other two had nothing at all; just the cells themselves. But that's a small sample size, and all three had failed (which is why I got them). >Also, a curious use of lead-acid equivilent Ah ratings (?) >Does this mean because li-ion as less internal resistance, the >Ah capacity rating for li-ion can be rated differently, but >equal to a lead-acid battery with a higher rating? >(this can cause confusion ... > i.e.: is that featherweight 1Ah battery is equal to a 4Ah > lead-acid?). I think it just means the ad copy writers got "A's" in their "creative writing" classes. After all, you can start a car with a "dead" battery, or a pack of AA cells and a big supercapacitor, etc. -- Excellence does not require perfection. -- Henry James -- Lee A.
