Two-day EV test drive event is one way a Burlington man is leading the
charge for change

BURLINGTON, Vt. — If you've ever been curious about making the switch to an
electric-powered car, one Burlington man is making it easier for you to get
behind the wheel.

Bill Calfee is passionate about how people can reduce their carbon
footprint. He said he was encouraged when he saw Burlington chart a plan to
become a net zero city by 2030 [
https://www.mynbc5.com/article/new-plan-charts-burlingtons-course-toward-becoming-net-zero-city/28972114
].

"It's about eliminating the use of fossil fuels," Calfee explains. "It's
important for Burlington but it's also important for all of us as Americans.
It's important for all of us who live on this planet."

Calfee says we're in a climate crisis right now, and one way a large number
of people can make an impact is by driving cleaner.

"They don't realize that they could have a different experience, a better
experience, in a car that's actually powered by electricity," he says. "In
Burlington, our electricity comes from renewable resources. So it's a
no-brainer."

Calfee first got an electric car in 2015, making it a daily goal to have
someone who's never driven an EV to take his for a spin. He's expanding his
personal test drives Thursday and Friday, organizing an event with four car
dealers so they can reach a bigger audience.

He has a specific group in mind that he wants getting behind the wheel --
community leaders.

"My intention is to get the people that others turn to for advice to have
the experience of driving an electric car," Calfee says.

He says he hopes influential figures can set an example for the rest of the
community to follow.

The EV test drive event is free and open to the public, but Calfee requests
people sign up for a time slot ahead of time online [

]. It runs 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Another option Calfee suggests is asking a friend with an electric car to go
on a ride in theirs or going to a dealership for an official test drive.
