Hi Dave etc,

Coming from motorcycles, I like small (efficient miles per KWH) EV’s. I
really liked the Smart EV, but with so many anti-sell issues (1/2 warranty,
wanting annual $600+ “maintenance” towed to DC, no service manuals etc), I
settled on a 15’ Chevy Spark which is nice, has a short turning radius,
fairly cheap (paid $14K with 600 miles), when I stopped converting EVs.

I bought a larger 13’ Leaf a few years ago for my son ($9.3K with 1K miles)
but it’s *too* big for me. The small cheap EV’s are the way to go for
commuter vehicles, I drive about 70 miles daily, to-from GE Renewable Energy
(50 round) and lunch time errands. While larger long range EV’s are nice, I
can’t afford $40K+ for a big battery that I only use occasionally. When the
Prius dies I might considered a used one. As Consumer Reports says it’s
best to let someone else pay that first year depreciation. Used EV’s a year
or two old with low mileage are about ½ price.

The automakers deliberately manufactured that demand with advertising. They
did it because SUVs and crossovers are more profitable, and also because
SUVs were classified as trucks and therefore less regulated.

They're now trying the same trick in Europe, with dismaying success. But
the EU isn't the US. Unlike the US, they have carbon goals. Their
governments have noticed what the automakers are doing, and how it's
affecting their ability to achieve those goals.
