How the Taycan is Made (raw footage)

Thirty minutes of Porsche's first electric vehicle being built could be the
ASMR you need.

  - Can't get enough of hearing about the Taycan, Porsche's first electric
vehicle? C/D has comprehensive coverage for you.
  - We were only missing raw footage of the actual production line, but now
you can get that, too (above).
  - More than 70,000 people watched this YouTube content in the two days
since Porsche posted it.

There's a slightly surprising number related to this new Porsche half-hour
video that shows nothing but raw footage of people and robots building the
new, all-electric Taycan. It's not some new zero-to-60-mph time; nor is it
an update to the battery-pack size. Instead, it's the fact that the video
got 70,000 views and counting in just two days.

Peek into the comments, and the high number of views starts to make sense.
There, one person says that the production sounds are soothing enough to
sleep to. Another says the process is like watching ballet. Still another
says the video calmed his stressful morning. Feelings of relaxation are not
the kind normally associated with Porsche in general—to say nothing about
the oomph of actually driving the Taycan—but they do fit well with this
quiet video.

We can't call it a trend, but other automakers have released videos without
any narration showcasing the production lines of vehicles, and they've been
surprisingly popular. A 26-minute video showing how the BMW i8 is built that
was uploaded in 2017 has over 138,000 views. A half-hour video of nothing
but the production methods of the electric motors used in BMW EVs has almost
a million views.

The Taycan is Porsche's first all-electric vehicle. It uses a 93.4-kWh
battery pack, front and rear motors, and an innovative two-speed
transmission at the rear axle to produce, in the top Turbo S model, 750
horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque. Porsche claims a zero-to-60-mph time of
less than three seconds and a 162-mph top speed. All of these figures
combine in an EV that we think fully lives up to Porsche's values while at
the same time rewires our understanding of what an EV can be.

The Taycan is priced starting at $152,250. Porsche started producing the
Taycan on September 9, and the EV's first deliveries are scheduled for
December.
