Mike (evalbum.com owner) sez >in a world of mass
produced electric cars,
-how valuable is the Album anymore?
-Should only conversions be included or
-only old production EVs, or
-should the whole thing just go away?
The Album has been up something like 20 years and that is an
eternity on the internet.
-Does it still have a valid purpose?<
===
-Absolutely has a a valid purpose. Keep evalbum.com alive and well !
Why? for many reasons. Mike you did such a great job, the site has so
many uses, it is an invaluable tool of/for EV information.
People may not know evalbum can be searched to show EVs by state, example:
http://www.evalbum.com/geo/Texas
-As Russ said, goog searches the EValbum site and lists entries, searching
goog on Russ Elise electric gives:
https://www.google.com/search?q=Russ+Elise+electric
Russ Sciville's 1998 Lotus Elise - EV Album

S1
Probably the best and ... Heater, Ceramic electric element from a 1800 watt
room ...
In its beginnings, as Mike said, 20 years ago, circa yr 2000, the internet
was still
new. Mike's efforts brought a connection of all the EV owners together. In
2000,
there really weren't production EVs to be had. Being able to compare
conversion
EVs (how fast, far, what components, etc.) was right at one's finger tips on
evalbum.com .
Now circa yr 2020, evalbum's purpose, focus, and use, should be the same.
People get complacent thinking why convert when you can buy a production
EV. There are still people, world-wide, converting EVs. With so many new
(noobie) production EV drivers, there is a need for EValbum.com to stay
focused on EV-conversions and modified production EVs.
Having said that, and realizing both Mike and I are aging, it would be wise
to
consider what today's use of EValbum.com is and what it is not.
Reducing/paring-down evalbum.com 's duties would make it easier to maintain.
My following statements will step on some toes which will raise their ire,
but to keep Mike from being inundated with the avalanche of new production
EV drivers everyone can see IS coming, changes should be made to let Mike
handle the work load, and make passing evalbum.com on to the next/younger
caretaker, not an albatross/cross to bear that it currently is.
IMO, evalbum.com should be for EVs-only (ones that plug into a grid for
electric
power). Not hevs, pih, fcvs, etc. An EV-conversion is essentially a modified
vehicle.
Most production EVs aren't allowed to be modified, else they lose warranty
or
support from the manufacturer. However, aging production EVs, that have lost
their support or their part sourcing has died up, can become modified
production
EVs. Thus, a listing of how the owner is diy supporting their 'classic' EV
would be
valuable for others to know.
*Certain vehicles should be moved/off-loaded evalbum.com to other ownership,
and let evalbum.com focus on just EVs, specifically, converted/modified EVs.
Then evalbum.com site maintenance would be much more manageable.
*1st move all hybrids (plugin or not) to a popular forum of that model to
manage.
There is currently a boat-load/a-lot of non-EV prius listings
https://www.google.com/search?site=evalbum.com%2F&q=prius&sitesearch=evalbum.com%2F&client=pub-0604986736580708&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&safe=active&flav=0000&sig=Py9zWxKP0AnU10ms&cof=GALT%3A%230066CC%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23999999%3BVLC%3A336633%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BLBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BALC%3A0066CC%3BLC%3A0066CC%3BT%3A000000%3BGFNT%3A666666%3BGIMP%3A666666%3BLH%3A50%3BLW%3A330%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fevalbum.com%2Fui%2Fevalbum.jpg%3BS%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fevalbum.com%2F%3BFORID%3A1%3B&hl=en
that could easily be handled by a prius forum. The same with other hybrids.
Since fcvs are essentially also a hybrid that consumes fossil fuel, they
should
be blocked from listing on evalbum.com and referred to list on their
favorite fcv forum.
So what of the unmodified production EVs listed on evalbum.com ?
That begs the question, why are they there? Is it for owners' bragging
rights?
Thankfully, the amount of Tesla listings on evalbum.com is far less than the
amount of Tesla EVs on the road, see
http://www.evalbum.com/type/TSLA
At some point, Tesla roadster gen1 EVs are going to lose manufacturer
support,see
https://www.google.com/search?site=evalbum.com%2F&q=tesla+roadster&sitesearch=evalbum.com%2F&client=pub-0604986736580708&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&safe=active&flav=0000&sig=Py9zWxKP0AnU10ms&cof=GALT%3A%230066CC%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23999999%3BVLC%3A336633%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BLBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BALC%3A0066CC%3BLC%3A0066CC%3BT%3A000000%3BGFNT%3A666666%3BGIMP%3A666666%3BLH%3A50%3BLW%3A330%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fevalbum.com%2Fui%2Fevalbum.jpg%3BS%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fevalbum.com%2F%3BFORID%3A1%3B&hl=en
That is when the old classic EV would become owner diy supported, and thus
a
modified production EV, whose listing of what changes the owner has made to
continue supporting it, would be good to know.
There are only a handful of Bolt EV listings on evalbum.com
https://www.google.com/search?safe=active&client=pub-0604986736580708&flav=0000&sig=Py9zWxKP0AnU10ms&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&ei=uu2QXabtG8j4tAW4vpcI&q=bolt+site%3Aevalbum.com%2F&oq=bolt+site%3Aevalbum.com%2F&gs_l=psy-ab.12...0.0..2631003...0.0..0.0.0.......0......gws-wiz.exjWfUHuAqY&ved=0ahUKEwimssn7yvbkAhVIPK0KHTjfBQEQ4dUDCAo
There are other production EVs on evalbum.com . But same as hybrids, they
should
be moved to a compatible forum, and future production EV or hybrid,
evalbum.com
listing creation should be blocked (referred to place it on an appropriate
forum).
My point in stating the above is to keep evalbum.com 's focus , and not let
it
be the unfocused free-for-all that it has currently become.
