The media, in its usual EV-clueless reporting, missed the whole point of the
EVent and the total number of plugins that were there. There were 60+
plugins attending.
A Tesla EV was mentioned, but even though the media-outlet's cameraman was
shooting the attending i-pace EV, it wasn't mentioned in their news
piece(?).
Neither was the Austin-local (Capital) Chevy dealership's 2 Bolt EVs,
nor the local BMW dealer's i3-rex pih.
The Chevy dealer said they have plenty of Bolt EVs instock.
The BMW dealer said they have i3-rex (with the on-board genset, making it a
pih) in stock, though
soon they hope to be supplied the next generation BMW EVs. He said there is
talk about i4 or
other model BMW EVs to replace the i3 which will eventually be out of
production.
[sidebar: later after the EVent, while I was at the San Antonio (sa) post
office, I saw an i3 drive up.
I asked the driver as he came in if he had an EV or the the rex model. He
said it was the rex and he was not happy with it. It is likely, the down
grading BMW did to the original European design is the
cause of that driver's unhappiness (the Euro design turned the genset on
sooner, more of the small fuel tank's capacity was utilized, and some other
disappointing down grades to meet with CARB regs).

The media report did not mention the e-motorcycles (
https://af1racingaustin.com ) dealer had brought.
>From the cool-looks of an e-vespa, zero e-motorcycle, to performance
e-motorcycle brands.
The media walked right past and missed out on an Austin EV start-up (
https://ayro.com ).
I had read about this in the newswires, but was saddened it was a nEV. But
after talking to their mgr. he mentioned they are working on a li-ion model
with a higher pack voltage which will give a higher top speed of 65mph, and
a longer range over 50miles. It won't have L3 charging ability, but comes
std. with a 6kW L2 charging ability. Which would make that model a low cost
commuter EV that can-do highway speeds, use the j1772 EVSE, +
There were two nice conversions there. One was an example of an Austin local
ice to EV converter
( https://momentmotors.com ). His work looked very clean and professional.
So, if a local had an ice
to convert, he would be your man.
