The new all-electric van here, known as Workhorse n gen 1000 delivery van, seems like a great candidate for conversion to a camper-- something I can move to and finally retire my 30+ year old VW Vanagon pop-top camper. As a camper, it would need a larger battery pack, a bit of a wheel/suspension lift, and some solar panels, but if I get a bit of available cash, this sounds like the one. Yeah, and do a build-out of the interior-- unless someone could arrange a partnership of the Workhorse with Winnebego, like the partnership VW made to finish the full-camper Eurovan camper in the '90s. Still, that's a lot easier than trying to put a Tesla power-train into a Vanagon. And presumably it has airbags and anti-lock brakes, never an option in the Vanagon. Take a look:
Workhorse NGEN-1000 Electric Van Enters Production Also: Electric N-Gen Vans from Workhorse Group Begin Delivering Goods And a comparative list: https://cleantechnica.com/2018/11/20/electric-deli...-mercedes/ They make four body-sizes, and it's mostly fiberglass (or some relative to fg), not steel, so should outlast the VW campers of the 20th century. Workhorse has a corporate headquarters in Cincinnati, And it seems a manufacturing facility in Loveland, Oh, a little east of Cincinnati. They had a deal to buy a closed GM factory in Lordstown Oh, in early 2019, but the deal stalled. Although they have a limited production line, it's not clear that they can meet USPostal service needs, or other large fleet customer's demand w/o a large facility like the GM one. IF ANYONE here on the EV list lives near Cincinnati and can do some walk-in investigation, please do it and give us a report. And maybe look under one of their vans and see if there's a good spot for another battery pack or two! | | | | | | | | | | | Electric N-Gen Vans from Workhorse Group Begin Delivering Goods Workhorse Group has begun real-world testing of its lightweight, all-electric N-Gen local delivery van in the Sa... | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Workhorse NGEN-1000 Electric Van Enters Production We are especially interested in the powertrain, as Workhorse states all-wheel drive with hub motors in front. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Electric Delivery Vans Coming From Chanje, Tesla, Workhorse, DHL, & Merc...
