For special applications. Fine. But I tell people the 200W of solar panels on my EV's roof are only 0.1% cost effective! The smaller cells cost TEN times the cost of home solar panels per watt and my home has 100 times more surface area. Hence 1000 times better to collect solar for my EV from my home's roof than on the car!
Also, just 12 solar panels at home can fully charge an EV everyday forever to the annual American daily average of 40 miles a day. Talk about energy independence! And its FREE too. (after you buy the $750 worth of panels)... You can't use standard heavy panels. You must use cells configured properly and self encapsulate using special plastic heat shrink and a hot air gun. They must be integrated into the roof of the vehicle. I've seen it done. This is much lighter and makes for a working solar vehicle. Encapsulation must be done or the cells will degrade in the natural environment. It is also more aerodynamic to use special encapsulation. A practical solar vehicle can be manufactured. It's just a matter of time before it's done. Tesla sponsors the Cruiser class at the World Solar Challenge. A future Tesla solar vehicle I bet is in the planning stages. I'd be surprised if it wasn't. Many top Tesla people were on the Stanford Solar Team. http://sinovoltaics.com/technology/stella-lux-winner-of-world-solar-challe nge-visits-shanghai/ Lawrence Rhodes _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org Read EVAngel's EV News at http://evdl.org/evln/ Please discuss EV drag racing at NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA) _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org Read EVAngel's EV News at http://evdl.org/evln/ Please discuss EV drag racing at NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
