The Dutch are great at innovation.  However not so great at advertising.  The 
most important transportation innovation can be seen in N.  California and at 
CES.  Lawrence Rhodes 



On Thursday, January 5, the Minister will kick off the economic trade mission 
with a visit to CES, the largest and most important technology trade show in 
the world. The trade show showcases the latest products, solutions and 
innovations in the field of consumer electronics.

Previous years saw the demonstration and launch of Windows operating system 
updates, electric cars, and new gaming technologies. Every major player from 
the technology industry is represented at CES. The trade show will further host 
many innovative companies from the Netherlands eager to show their products. In 
fact, this year CES will see the first ever Holland Startup Pavilion, which is 
shared by 22 Dutch startups.

Minister Kamp and Startup Envoy Prince Constantijn will officially open the 
Holland Startup Pavilion on Thursday afternoon. Following the opening, the 
Startup Envoy will show the Minister around the Pavilion. That evening, 
Minister Kamp will kick off the Holland Innovation and Startup Network Event 
for an audience of 300 leading entrepreneurs.

The high number of participating startups shows the combined strength of, and 
interest in, Dutch high-tech companies and startups. On Friday, January 6, 
Minister Kamp will see the highlights at CES, both from Dutch as well as 
international companies.
High-tech mission to Silicon Valley

Minister Kamp will then travel to California where he will visit San Francisco 
and Silicon Valley. On Sunday, January 8, Minister Kamp will visit the Laguna 
Seca Race Trackway to witness Dutch solar car STELLA attempt to break the world 
record on this famous circuit. STELLA embodies all the parts of the mission 
from robotics and photonica to smart mobility and energy technology. The 
builders of STELLA, students of TU/Eindhoven launched Start up, Atlas 
Technology, that aims to build a solar SUV for the commercial market.

On Monday, January 9, Minister Kamp will speak with California Secretary of 
Environmental Protection Matt Rodriquez. He will also hold a keynote at the 
Smart Mobility Conference in San Francisco on the leadership role of the 
Netherlands in promoting clean and smart mobility. Minister Kamp will visit 
Berkeley in the afternoon to speak to 100 students about entrepreneurship and 
especially about the Dutch way of doing business. In the evening, the minister 
will attend a business diner with approximately 250 international business 
leaders.

On Tuesday January 10, Minister Kamp will open the Emerging Technologies 
Summit. Diarmuid Oçonnell, VP business Development of Tesla, will hold the 
keynote at this event. Netherlands and American counterparts can learn about 
the latest technologies and exchange knowledge about smart e-mobility, 
robotics, photonics and energy technology.
