Cor,

Phrases such as "few automakers still", "entrenched in hydrogen fuel cell
technology", "succumbing to physics", are like writing on the wall. Doesn't
physics play an important role in energy, transportation, development and
progress. To think that physics crept up on Toyota, and finally Toyota had to
succumb to the unpredictable, silent, unforeseeable beast of science and
physics is naïve.

Producing hydrogen from water requires large amounts of energy. The energy
consumed is usually more valuable than the hydrogen produced. It is easier to
produce hydrogen from coal or natural gas, so gasoline or diesel are not all
that much different, so why not stick with them? Hydrogen can be used to store
energy which is a good quality for some applications.

It is good that Toyota and others have tried and continue to try to make
breakthroughs in the use of hydrogen technology. One day it may be possible to
split water into hydrogen and oxygen with less energy spent, then they will be
on to something. However, with current technology, it is efficient, clean and
safe to utilize battery electric vehicles in areas that they perform best.

If I was a writer perhaps (most definitely) I would use an occasional
inappropriate term, confuse the reader, miss the point, or see the world
through lead acid and lithium colored glasses.

Just my 2 cents worth. Sorry for off topic content.

Alan

Would it be bad to say "I told you so"?
