-Neighbour left angry rant claiming Mr Warner was costing them money

A photographer who charged his electric car in a communal hallway upset his
neighbours so much that they took the 20p he offered them to end the row.

Adam Warner, 25, of Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, borrowed the tiny Renault
Twizy car for work, but had to park in his apartment block hallway to charge
it.

He left a note to apologise for the inconvenience, but he later found the
letter had the words ‘your friends’ removed from the sentence ‘your friends
in flat 16’.

Upsetting the neighbours: Adam Warner, 25, of Walton-on-Thames, Surrey,
borrowed the tiny Renault Twizy car for work, but had to park in his
apartment block hallway to charge it

A neighbour left an angry rant of their own claiming he was costing them
money, before Mr Warner taped a 20p piece to a letter - which the neighbour
took.

Mr Warner said: ‘I don’t know my neighbours. I have no idea who it is.
(After the second note) I was half expecting a knock on my door from a big
bloke.

‘But thankfully that didn’t happen. If I encountered a problem like this and
I knew who it was, I would just politely go and ask.

‘But I don’t think I was doing anything wrong. I could have not left a note
apologising at all, but I had tried to explain.

‘I feel I went about it the right way but there are some people on this
planet who are a***holes. I don’t have a relationship with any of my
neighbours.

Row: Bemused by his neighbour’s anger, Mr Warner wrote another note in
reply, and stuck a 20p coin to the bottom of the note - but when he came
back, the money had been taken
‘So when I go out I am always looking at people to see if they look back at
me in a nasty way to try and guess who it was.’

Mr Warner, who works as a professional photographer and regularly takes
pictures of cars, had borrowed the unusual vehicle from his work for a week.

Since he lives in a second floor flat he could not find anywhere to park his
car next to a charger apart from in the entrance to his building, which the
cleaner usually uses for the vacuum cleaner.

He left a note on the car which read: ‘Hey neighbours! Apologies for the bad
parking! It’s only temporary. Your friends in flat 16.’

However when he returned later that day he discovered that the two words
‘your friends’ had been torn off his note and a few words had been added.

It read: ‘*and wait for our service charge to go up in price… NO THANKS.’
Bemused by his neighbour’s anger, Mr Warner decided to write another note in
reply. His second note read: ‘Hey upset neighbour!

‘As you don’t have the balls to come and knock on my flat door and tell me
your concern in person, I have attached a 20 pence coin, which should
compensate you for your electricity cost. Happy days! Thanks. P.S. Don’t
unplug my car.’

He stuck the 20p coin to the bottom of the note with tape, but when he came
back the next day, the money had been taken.

Mr Warner said: ‘It costs about £1 per time to charge it up and there are
four flats in my block so I put 20p on the note.

‘We got a £300 rebate on our service charge last year so there is no chance
that we will end up paying more. I have no idea why they were so bothered by
it.

‘I would have thought if anyone would have got annoyed about it, it would
have been about the car being on the entrance.

‘My girlfriend thought it was really funny and all my friends thought it was
hilarious. I’m quite easy-going. I’m not too serious about things.

‘I think that when you live in a block of flats there is no point getting
agitated by people. You’ve got to make light of a situation.”

The £1 cost to charge the Renault Twizy is an estimate based on domestic
electricity being 14p/kwh unit.

The vehicle takes approximately three and a half hours to charge and it can
go up to 62 miles on one charge.
