With close to 5,000 lbs (2,300 kg) and a very low center of gravity thanks to the battery pack platform, it’s not surprising that it achieved a 5-star rating with a probability of only 5.7% rollover in a high-speed crash, according to NHTSA. It makes rollover events like this one extremely rare. Yesterday, a Model S owner was traveling between Eindhoven and Den Bosch in the Netherlands and his sedan was hit by a truck at high-speed on the highway. Circumstances around the crash are vague, but judging from the pictures of the aftermath and the fact that the vehicle was seen rolling over at least one time, it must have been a very high-speed and forceful impact. A video of the aftermath (see [above]) was posted to Youtube with the following description (translated from Dutch): In an accident on the A2 between Eindhoven and Den Bosch on Wednesday a motorist rollover. Around 12.00 a lorry arriving from Sweden crashed with a Tesla Model S. The hit was followed by at least one but possibly several rollovers. The electric car was thus completely destroyed and had to be removed by a salvage company. The truck was damaged but could continue on its own. The police, fire brigade, ambulance service and Rijkswaterstaat provided assistance. The Tesla driver was transferred by ambulance to the hospital. The seriousness of his injuries and the cause of the accident is unknown. Two of the three lanes were closed to traffic which caused a long traffic jam that caused more than a half hour delay.
