Part of the efficiency change is from the redesigned front end. With the older Tesla P85, I can get below 250 wh per mile in nice weather (not heating or cooling). That is a mixture of city and highway driving on roads that are largely 55 mph speed limit with speeds around 60 mph, but lots of stop lights for the first 5 miles.
The dual motor can be more efficient because it can run either or both motors for best efficiency. The Tesla is better on the highway than most cars because it does have a very low drag coefficient.
