Carlos Ghosn Media Roundtable Session - 2016 NYIAS

Since it’s an Alliance platform, both Renault and Nissan have equal rights
in exploiting it.

Reiterating the fact that the CMF-A low-cost platform is engineered with
various top-hats and powertrain options in mind, Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and
CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance, stated that there would sedan and crossover
derivatives in the future. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of New
York Auto Show, the top official stated that the CMF-A platform is a huge
success in India and hence it would do good in other emerging markets as
well.

The Common Module Family – A Segment (CMF-A) is a highly flexible
architecture which was primarily engineered in India with stringent cost
targets at every stage. The platform was debuted by the Renault Kwid which
has surpassed over 100,000 bookings in India, and will soon be spawning its
second derivative, the Datsun Redi-Go.

Since the platform proved to be a huge success, it’s only logical to come up
with more models based on it. A CMF-A sedan is more likely to be a sub-4 m
product which would be pitted against the likes of Tata Kite 5 sedan. A
crossover on the same platform would also be a sub-4m vehicle with
aggressive pricing. Such derivatives will not only have India as their
primary target market but will also be sold in other promising emerging
markets. However, there is no information on the time frame for these new
products.

When asked about the possibility of an electric Renault Kwid, Mr. Ghosn
replied that it is a ‘logical consequence’, hinting that a pure electric
CMF-A vehicle for India is something that the company wouldn’t shy away from
exploring but it’s not a part of the agenda for the immediate future.
