It's rare that an automaker – or any business – tries to suppress demand for its product, but that is what Tesla has had to do for its newest offering, the Model X. Even since its launch, Elon Musk has been trying to keep the market for its SUV cool until Tesla could increase production, an effort that began in earnest at the end of last year. Even so, thousands of eager customers slapped down deposits on the electric ute without having driven it, without being inundated with advertisements, and even without being able to rely on reviews from the automotive press. Now, though, it appears the reputed electric car manufacturer is ready to take on more orders as it begins a two-country tour of the Tesla Model X. In cities throughout the US and Canada, potential customers and curious car connoisseurs will have a chance to get behind the wheel of the falcon-winged EV as part of Tesla's "Meet Model X" tour. In addition to offering test drives, Tesla will also have specialists on hand to help those who have already reserved a car configure their Model X. For those making reservations now, Tesla expects a delivery in the second half of 2016. In true Tesla fashion, the company is relying on word-of-mouth to help hook other potential customers. Throughout the tour, Tesla is encouraging visitors to share their experiences with the electric SUV using the #MeetModelX hashtag on social media. The public is already weighing in, with events having begun in Boston, Long Island, Scottsdale, and Seattle. If you're interested in meeting the Model X yourself, don't drag your feet. Scheduled events are filling up quickly. At the time of this writing, events in Scottsdale, Denver and Toronto are already at capacity.
