BYD is certainly making a splash locally, and are looking to get into several electric markets. Definitely exciting if they can deliver.
I understand that there have been problems with at least one area's buses from BYD (Altoona), but I've been told that the problems had nothing to do with the battery or drive train. I was just recently sent the report, but haven't had time to review it. The company has some very good folks working for them, and I'm hopeful that they will be successful.
