Harley Bradley House being the first in Kankakee to have electric lights, the Chicagoland Tesla Owners chose the location for their first meeting Sunday afternoon. Lois Scott, of Chicago, drove her 2012 model from Chicago to take part in the tour of the house, and take the electric powered boat ride. ] A row of 14 high-tech electric cars — parked in front of the the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed B. Harley Bradley House in Kankakee — might seem like an inappropriate mix of eras. But Saturday's visit, by members of the Chicagoland Tesla Owners group, made perfect sense, when Norm Strasma, a Wright in Kankakee board member, explained the origin of the tour. "My wife and I were talking to some folks at a Tesla event in Wheeling, and told some owners about the Bradley House, and about the way this house featured all-electric lighting, in 1900," he said. "Plus, we offered a tour of the river on an all-electric boat." Lois Scott, a retired financial analyst from Chicago, made the drive in her 2012 Signature Model car. The VIN on her car is 114: That makes it one of the "oldest" in Illinois. "But these cars really don't get old. We're constantly getting updates," she said. "And it's the same with this house: It's a century old, but it looks like it might have been built last year. "This is the future, and the past," Scott said of her car and the house. Scott complimented the "welcoming people of Kankakee," and noted that she had no idea there was a restored Wright house here. The Tesla batteries give the cars a range of about 270 miles, so none of the visiting drivers needed to "refuel" here.
