Yes, the sheet steel shroud adds weight, but not near as much as the generator itself, which the car engine doesn't have. I don't know the weight of the Prius powertrain. Is it capable of the 50kW continuous estimated for the full size pickup? PM would definitely increase the continuous power rating. Its easier for a 10kW, they only weigh around 300 lb.
