Tesla P90D - First in Europe
Stephan Maag Oct 1, 2015
]

Some people will look at the private home charging setup for the first owner
of a Tesla Model S P90D in Europe and say “it must be nice.”

We don’t know for a fact it’s the “first” P90D but a YouTube account by
Stephan Maag says it is, as he demonstrates a mini hydroelectric generator
used to renewably power his car.

The video shows a lovely home where he parks his expensive car and charges
it with a suitably expensive electricity generator using a pool of water to
turn it like a mini Grand Coulee Dam.

To American eyes, this arrangement at a villa that looks like the basis for
a fountain appears understated and tasteful enough for a member of a royal
family – at least, say a young duke or prince living the good life.

More ordinary people are considered ahead of the curve to have solar
installations to get off the grid, but not as many have their own on-site
hydroelectric station.

The setup drops 317 gallons (1,200 liters) of water per second 11.5 feet
(3.5 meters) and that waterfall is what generates the electricity. A video
shows a three-hour recharge but unsaid was the battery’s state of charge
when it was parked. If it was near empty, that is faster than a level 2 High
Power Wall Connector which supplies 58 miles range per hour.

Maag also has a referral link in the end of the video per Tesla’s referral
program. If you have no other person to give a referral to, perhaps you can
include him and help him cover the costs of this fine installation.

Inventive Tesla Model S owner uses waterfall to recharge EV

12-Foot-Tall Waterfall Delivers 317 Gallons Per Second

Ludicrous? Perhaps. Cool? totally. One inventive European Tesla Model S
owner has posted a video showing how he powers his P90D with a hydroelectric
power station at home. He claims to be the first on the continent to own a
Tesla Model S P90D, but we're more impressed with his energy generation
method.

Stephan Maag took to YouTube to show off his P90D and his home in a
three-minute video found by Hybrid Cars. That home includes a hydroelectric
station that gets its power from a waterfall that drops 317 gallons of water
per second and is almost 12 feet tall. That's certainly enough to give the
super sedan enough charge to tool around town, though the gentleman didn't
provide information on how long it takes the hydroelectric station to charge
up the car or how the water gets to the point where Maag can run it through
the generator (It's likely there is a river flowing nearby he can access,
since it wouldn't make sense to pump it up there just to run it back down).

The P90D is notable for its 90-kilowatt-hour battery, an option that was
introduced this summer. The beast delivers 417 horsepower while boasting an
official single-charge range of 253 miles. Around the same time, Tesla also
announced its so-called Ludicrous mode, which included an upgrade that
rockets the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than three seconds. No
word on whether Maag and his waterfall was powering up a Ludicrous-mode
version of the Tesla, but that hydroelectric power still is pretty cool.
Take a look at the video above.
