$45K electric bicycle among items stolen from business near Wynwood

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A South Florida business owner has been able to retrieve two
out of three bicycles he said were stolen from him, including a collector's
electric bicycle valued at $45,000.

Those bicycles were among more than $100,000 in items and cash stolen from a
Miami shop over the weekend. According to Arie Gad, the owner of
AmericanElectric, a company known for making energy-efficient scooters, the
collector's bike, a Dubai Terminus, was returned to him on Monday. He said
someone in the neighborhood saw Gad's story on 7News and contacted him.
"Apparently they saw some kids driving it, and it was repossessed by some
adult in the area," he said. "Somebody came by, told us they found it."

Celebrities and multi-millionaires shop at Gad's store and appreciate some
of the bikes as works of art. "Billionaires buy this as a piece of art," Gad
said.

Gad dropped a few names like Chris Bosh, who owns an M55 Terminus, an
electric bike made by hand. "We've been called the Ferrari of electric
bikes," Gad said during a story aired on Deco Drive in 2013.

A total of $150,000 worth of bikes, cash, laptops and tools were stolen from
Gad's Miami shop, sometime between Friday and Sunday morning. Gad said he
came in that morning to find his shop ransacked. "They took all the
computers. They took all the laptops. Apparently, they went through all our
drawers, they took my checks," he said.

Miami Police first responded to the store Sunday. Investigators believe the
burglars parked in front of the business, busted a fence and then climbed
the roof to gain access to the building through a window. "We found out they
broke the lock through here, cracked open the door, and they used that
actual wall as a staircase, and they walked into the second floor, cracked
open the window, and this is apparently where they unloaded everything,"
said Gad.

The Dubai Terminus was found blocks away from Gad's store in a garage. It
remains unknown who returned it. "I'm very happy to know there's honest
people out there," Gad said.

Hours after retrieving the Terminus, Gad said he spotted someone riding
another of his stolen bicycles and called the police. Miami Police crime
scene vans and cruisers flooded 52nd Street and Third Avenue in Miami,
Monday, at around 6 p.m., where that bike was located.

Police questioned several people on scene, and a woman was seen being driven
off in a cruiser. "I have some hope that we'll find the third one," said
Gad.

If you have any information on these bike burglars, call Miami-Dade Crime
Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you
may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
