More CONAN @ http://teamcoco.com/video ] When Stevie Wonder asked, through an intermediary, if he could take a ride in Cedric the Entertainer's Tesla, Cedric said yes, of course, he told Conan O'Brien on Monday's Conan. But after a very fast spin around the block, Wonder had another request: "This is so cool, you should let me drive." That's where Cedric drew the line, as would any owner of a fancy automobile with a blind passenger: "Stevie, Stevie, the car's electric, not magic." Presumably he will be more generous with his first self-driving sedan. —Peter Weber [© theweek.com] http://www.autoevolution.com/news/stevie-wonder-likes-the-tesla-model-s-apparently-video-94938.html Stevie Wonder Likes the Tesla Model S, Apparently - Video by Ionut Ungureanu 28th April 2015 [image http://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/news-314/stevie-wonder-likes-the-tesla-model-s-apparently-video-94938-7.jpg video flash ] Of course, he didn’t drive it, Cedric the Entertainer did. It turns out the comedian was the one to chauffeur the soul icon recently in his Tesla Model S, and the artist was quite keen of the EV. The 51-year-old entertainer talked about the interesting experience on Monday, at the Conan talk show, and that’s not event the most amusing part. Comedians will always tell a funny story but making jokes about a man’s health condition sure is something risky even for Cedric the Entertainer. However, his remark was quite subtle and went out safe enough not to upset anybody. So here’s how things went on, according to the comedian. Stevie Wonder asked him, through an intermediary, if he could take a ride in Cedric’s Tesla, the answer was obviously yes. After a couple of spins around the block, the famous artist had another request only this one was quite peculiar. “This is cool, you should let me drive.” It’s what Wonder allegedly told Cedric, and here’s where a self-driving feature would have come in handy. Sure, Elon Musk did predict that autonomous driving cars will take over and turn human driving extinct not by natural means but by force. But we’re not there yet. “Stevie, Stevie, the car’s electric, not magic,” Cedric the Entertainer then told him. Autonomous cars are not here yet, but the idea is far from being magic. In fact, judging by the pace technology evolves today, we might be quite close from seeing that magic turning into real life, pure engineering, but no hocus-pocus whatsoever. Still, from this little comedy gig we did manage to find out something, and that’s what Cedric is driving. The concept vehicle shows how the interaction between an automated vehicle and its driver could work. Accompany Philip, a young professional, on his journey to the airport, and see how the user interface of his vehicle handles different phases of manual and automated driving – making Philip's journey safe, relaxing, productive and entertaining. NOTE: The vehicle shown in the movie is a concept vehicle (not in series production). ] Tesla’s Model S already offers an array of autonomous driving functions like lane departure warning and speed limit assist, but the luxury EV isn’t quite at the point of driving itself from place to place. The Model S’s upcoming 7.0 software update might even offer auto-steering options for drivers who’d like them. Bosch is ready to take things a step further. In this video mock-up, the parts supplier shows off some of the potential of autonomous driving technology, using the Tesla as its template. It’s not quite a matter of “set it and forget it,” but customizable auto-driving options and route control make it so drivers can determine exactly how much assistance they want on the road. Drivers activate the system by holding two buttons on the steering wheel. If the car is in an applicable place, the Bosch system will take over driving duties. The car alerts the driver when control needs to be given back with video and audio alarms. The one downside is that Bosch does not offer any information on how close these functions are to actual production. Still, all current developments point at an autonomous driving future being closer than we might think.
