Famous horror novel writer Stephen King comes out to be a Tesla fan, after
he tweeted his quarter mile drive in a Tesla vehicle

With its portfolio of amazing performance electric cars, Tesla Motors Inc
(NASDAQ:TSLA) has impressed many auto analysts and speed lovers. But no one
knew that the famous horror novel writer, Stephen King, is also a Tesla fan.

Mr. King updated in a Twitter status, “Took my Tesla out to a drag strip
last week and ran the 1/4 mile. 112 MPH, 0 to 60 in 4 seconds. Like driving
an X-Wing fighter.” This status was later re-tweeted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk,
who is already famous for leaving a huge impact on Tesla stock with his
"teaser tweets".

It is not known whether Mr. King drove Tesla's most expensive sedan P85D
Model S or a Roadster, but the vehicle gave him the experience of driving a
X-wing Fighter from 'Star Wars'.

Tesla P85D version is an all-wheel drive (AWD) performance vehicle, which
grabbed headlines a few month ago for its “insane” mode feature, that could
boost vehicle speed from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. The model could
reach a top speed of 155 mph.

The automaker recently announced its decision to halt the production of its
low-selling base version of Model S, replacing it with the upgraded AWD 70D
version, which would come with a 15% battery capacity uplift. This lifts up
the Tesla vehicle's starting price to $75,000 from $71,000, for an earlier
version.

Stephen King is a Tesla fan

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) —Stephen King feels the need for speed.

He boasted on Twitter Thursday about how he took his Tesla car to a
dragstrip and reached 60 miles per hour in just four seconds. King said he
topped 112 mph and likened it to driving a Star Wars X-wing Fighter.

There would be little trouble escaping from Jack Nicholson's deranged
character in The Shining with that kind of speed.

King didn't say which version of Tesla's Model S car he was driving. The new
all-wheel drive P85D comes with an "insane" mode that can reach a top speed
of 155 miles per hour and reach 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. But the
rear-wheel drive 85 model is pretty fast itself. It can go from 0 to 60 in
less than 6 seconds and tops out at 140 mph, according to the company.

Speed comes with a cost. Tesla cars start selling at $75,000. The company
announced Wednesday that all of its new cars will come standard with a dual
motor and all-wheel drive.

Those looking for a more affordable Tesla are anxiously awaiting the Model
3, which Tesla hopes will cost between $30,000 and $40,000. But it could be
years before that's available.

Stephen King Tweets About Dragging Tesla

You might expect Stephen King to employ a more sinister analogy to describe
the wicked performance of his Tesla.

But rather than writing it "was killer," "went like a bat out of Hell," or
had "demonic power," this morning on Twitter, the horror writer chose to
compare his electric car to the workhorse of George Lucas' Rebel Alliance,
the X-Wing fighter.

The Verge first noticed his post, and while details are scarce—they're all
literally contained in a 127-character tweet—the performance figures seem to
rule out King's use of the older Roadster.

Official stats show the Lotus-based model hitting 60 mph in 5.1 seconds,
suggesting that the best-selling author either got a fantastic launch in the
P85, or a less-than-stellar one in the P85D, where its "Insane Mode" will
allow it to achieve the speed in just 3.1.

Regardless, we're glad to see King enjoying himself at the drags.
