One other thing to consider is the DOD of the battery pack over time. More
life from the battery pack can be gained by 80% DOD that 70% DOD as seen on our
SMART Car converted BEV. How much more as compared to the cost of a few more
AHr's is an analysis worth looking at. Right now we have to baby the BEV pack
if after only a few miles past that point. My trip is 34mi, and mostly highway
speed of 60+, after analysis, 50mi range is the min for us at 60mph. Tommy

You will need the few miles of extra range when:

1) The car gets a number of years old, and the pack ages a bit.
2) Winter, bad weather, etc.
3) Construction/accident detour.
4) Unnoticed low pressure in tire.
etc, etc, etc....

It is nice to have a little extra cushion in the total range.
