When Willie posted that the iMiev only charged at 800watts when using level-1 (U.S. 120VAC outlet), I remembered that the portable level-1 EVSE iMiev supplies had an 8Amp draw, while other plugin brands would normally draw 12A.
I also remembered that I had seen an iMiev level-1 EVSE that had a switch which would allow for either 8A or 12A charging. I found a Mitsubishi page that shows this: http://www.mitsubishicars.com/imiev/features/charging ... SWITCHABLE 8-12 AMP LEVEL 1 CHARGING CABLE The Mitsubishi i-MiEV includes a convenient portable charging cable which is switchable from 8amps (approx. 22 hours) to 12amps (approx. 14 hours) that plugs into a totally dedicated 15amp standard 120V household outlet ... [image http://static.mitsubishicars.com/img/section/landing/2014/iev/features/charging-8-12-amp-d.jpg (Mitsubishi L1 EVSE) ] Perhaps Willie's L1 EVSE only offers a 800W charging ability, but with the (above) L1 EVSE a driver could get a standard 12A L1 charge, as Bill had mentioned. As many know, my main interest is in charging, so I tried charging at many different power levels, and with several different types/brands of chargers. In my experience, I am thinking recharging the iMiev's 16kWh pack overnight (while sleeping) or at work, 8hrs using a L1 charge (drawing 12A, pushing 1+kW into the pack) should be sufficient to regain ~35 miles. { 60mi/(16kWh/1.2kW)=4.5mi/kWh when charging at L1 12A | 8hrs*4.5mi/kWh=36mi regained } I always kept several long extension cords in my EV's back seat, and had no trouble pulling 12A at a 100+VAC even when using a 100ft 14-3 cord when plugged into a dedicated 120VAC 20A outlet. {brucedp.150m.com} - On Wed, Mar 4, 2015, at 02:49 PM, Willie2 via EV wrote: > On 03/04/2015 03:41 PM, Bill Dube via EV wrote: > > You can charge more than 16 kWh during a normal workday from a 120V - > > 20A outlet.
