Even if I put a deadline on it, I expect that people would still keep the thread going for days or weeks past the deadline. The "reply" button is right there, and kind of seductive, y'know? ;-) > Lately the list seems to have gone far afield from discussing EVs. Lately?! That's happened for as long as I've been here (which is now 20+ years). Same song; that "reply" button is easy to hit, and people tend to post what comes to mind, whether it's on topic or not. I was going to say that that's the inevitable nature of the net, but I think it's really more just the nature of people. We're social. We chat. Someone else says something that resonates, we respond. So it goes. ;-) When a thread goes off topic (or starts that way), I can ask the posters to kill the thread or take it to private email. There are a few more vorpal things I can do with OT threads, but usually don't. I've seen some good comments so far on the charter change idea. Thanks! If you want to de-clutter the list and make Mr Chapman (and no doubt others) happier, you can send further charter thoughts to my private email instead of posting them on the list.
