I have the same experience that slow traffic reduces consumption - IF
you still drive as smooth as possible. When the freeway is stop-n-go
where one moment everyone accelerated to 50+ MPH and the next moment
slams on their brakes for a full stop, then the driving is similar to
through-town driving with all the traffic lights, people pulling out and
such and consumption is equal to constant freeway speed.
I try to maintain as constant and low speed as acceptable (it helps that
I have an old Ranger truck) so doing a constant 55 MPH in the right lane
brings me where I need to go with less than a minute difference compared
to trying to do 65+ but the difference in consumption is huge.

There's definitely a huge reduction in consumption when I drive at a
steady
~30-40mph in traffic compared to 65mph+. Some days, when the charger
fails
me, I pray for traffic so I can make it home.

Surface streets with all the stop signs and lights however don't reduce
my
consumption nearly as much.

My car is the reciprocal of yours but the physics remain the same.

Of course, if you have very high tear loads then the longer run time
will
cut into any reduction in miles per kWh.

Do you run 4wd? A miss-match in tire size could cause high losses.
