I can support Dave's comment with an anecdote...

Not as extreme, but I know a guy who bought a plug-in prius, but hardly
ever plugs it in... (IE, never drives it on electric)...

What I would LOVE to see is a image comparing the TWO unique parts of a
electric motor (armature and stator) and the hundreds of parts of an ICE,
pistons, rods, vavlves, lifters, pumps, plugs, exhaust, etc, etc, etc, all
layed out on a white background.

The hundred-to-one savings of mechanical complexity would surely clarify
the difference...
