Riverside-based Orange EV converts diesel-powered terminal trucks to
electric power

Orange EV, an electric truck producer in Riverside, passed a milestone by
completing the first successful documented demonstration showing its vehicle
can complete an entire shift on a single charge.

The company turns out electric-powered terminal trucks (also known as
mules), which are a type of small semi-tractor used to move trailers around
a cargo yard. Orange EV takes decommissioned diesel trucks turns them into
fully restored and converted electric trucks. The company became operational
in April, completing a two-year research and development stage, and now it
is showing the vehicles' capabilities to potential buyers.

To demonstrate the abilities of its electric trucks, the company teamed up
with ITS Technologies & Logistics, a provider of rail intermodal services
that handles more than 7 million lifts and 1.5 million vehicles each year at
more than 60 facilities across the United States, including Edgerton. The
company works with all the major U.S. railroads, so the successful
demonstration was a major milestone for Orange EV.

Ron Teague, senior vice president of intermodal operations at ITS, provided
a testimonial saying the truck has convinced his team that it has the
endurance and power necessary to do the job.

"These guys are comfortable putting their name next to ours and it's a great
validation for our truck," Mathisen said.

Orange EV is now planning a similar demonstration at another facility this
summer to continue highlighting its capabilities in live operating
environments.

"As people see that the truck works, then we talk through the economics of
the truck and with that, we'll end up with early adopters who will put
electric trucks into their yard," Mathisen said.
