Hello Pln, Oshiro, Claire, Paulo, Misha, Briana, Wichuda, Dipodidae and all

I was trying to think over what means were used 200 years ago. I imaged
that a few people were used to reading and writing and that newspaper were
not so spread and common. I supposed mail was the main means to communicate
over distance place, and maybe pigeons could flew with message tied at one
leg. Then I had a quick search on wikipedia about telegraph...electric
telegraph and morse alphabeth were invented later but a kind of 'ottic
telegraph' were common at the time. It works tihs way: from the top of a
tower a particular sequence of lights were blinked. The sequence was
observed at distance from an adjacent tower and the sequece of lights was
reproduced and so on till the farest tower. The sequence of lights used a
known "code" and this way was possible to send fast a little number of
messages. It was similar to american native smoke signals.

I think this last way of communications certainly suits the definition "The
more elaborate our means of communication, the less we
communicate." especially If we want to transmit elaborated concepts.

Moreover reading the quote I can feel a diffidence in technology. A
diffidence that sometimes we experiment today when we are to think that
technology doesn't ease our life but, on the contrary, make it more
complicated.

I perceive a mean as complex when I have to translate my message in a non
natural language, or code, to exploit a the technology (like a sequence of
lights or a morse alphabeth).

I'd better say "The less a techology is close to natural language, the less
we communicate"

The best to all,

Alberto
