  Hi,

I wholeheartedly agree with you. You're a great aunt! ^_^
I also have a niece, and finds it extremely difficult when choosing a
suitable toy for her. Intellectual toys are always my top priorities. However,
two major problems facing when deciding what toys to buy are the quality and
the usefulness of those toys. When mention the quality, I mean the substances,
the materials that are used to produce those toys. I'm very worried about that
because I've heard toys made in China are often very harmful, even dangerous
for children as they were made from poisonous materials :( Children are
childish (^^), they can't protect themselves, they may put everything to their
mount no matter how dangrous it is. Therefore, It would be much more dangerous
to give children such deadly things. That's why I always hesitate when choosing
a China origin toys and prefer wood toys since they're often much safer.

My second concern when choosing a toy is its usefulness, its functions. That
toy must be suitable with the age, and therefore the ability (the intelligence)
of the child. Once I bought my niece a jigsaw toy, however I didn't know how to
teach her to play even though it was not too compicated. After a long time of
thinking, I finally found the method. It's certainly that I didn't ask her to
join all pieces of the jigsaw together but just only one piece left in order to
complete the picture. However, she still couldn't join that last piece because
she even hadn't recognized and distingished different colours. So I decided to
join the piece slowly in order for her to see and after that unjoined it and
put it next to the remainder. She did her job perfectly in this time. By that
way, I increase the level of difficulty by rotating the piece and unjoining
more pieces.
Gradually, she made all the members of the family greatly surprised by her
talent of playing with the whole jigsaw pieces. It was marvelous, everyone
could hardly believe that ^_^

From that story, I realized that each toy has a variety of functions, these
functions can be guided in the introduction part and also be discovered by
yourself. Having useful toys is very important, however learning how to play
with them is more significant. Renewing an old toy by finding out a new
function or a way of playing with it.

  Cheers,
  Nam

    Hi everyone,

It is my belief that toys have a great influence on children's development.
The problem is that how we can choose toys suitable for them. Some toys can
help children's brain develop quickly, while some might destroy their internal
ability. Many scientists have shown that children might become violent if
everyday they play with guns, tanks, etc, and I totally agree with them.
Therefore, it is advisable for parents to be careful when selecting toys for
their children. My brother has two nice "angels", and certainly I often buy
presents for them on special events. I highly appriciate the intellect of LEG0-
toys. I think LEGO-toys are very useful for improving children's imagination.
With some colourful pieces of LEGO toys my brother's older sister can sit for
hours to image and creat many things such as houses, train, bus, etc which are
usually considered as marvelous "masterpices" by her. However, it should be
noted that LEGO toys should only be given for children who are over two years
old whose brains are mature enough to image. My brother's three-year-old
daughter is also keen on learning how to count and do some simple calculations,
therefore i often buy some thin books including number for them. Sometimes i
select colourful pictures of animals, flowers or other objects like square,
ovan, tangle, etc; with a view to helping my niece be able to realize the
diffrences beetween them. Along with books and pictures in my opinion, VCD, CD
music also play an important role in improving children's memory because they
often tend to copy what they see and listen on TV. I believe that the children
will feel music better if they are exposed to it at early age. Finally, I
would like to say that children can become much smarter than we expecte if they
are taught and brought in right ways in early childhood.
