I am not having any problems running IE Tab on Firefox ESR 52.9.0. What specific behavior are you seeing? Is IE Tab in about:plugins? Is the extension still installed?
As far as future plans, with ESR 60, there will be no plugin support. You will have to launch IE to view IE specific sites.
