TB 77 is not an officially-supported TB release: there's TB 68, then a series of intermediate releases meant for testing, then TB 78. At some point between TB 68 and TB 78, Thunderbird removed the XUL interface toolkit Enigmail depends upon. I don't know why it says it works with 77.0a1 and later, and I'm not going to speculate as to Patrick's reasons except to say I suspect it's connected to the migration tool. I will say that Enigmail does not work with TB 78 and later, and TB 77.0a1 is not an official mass-release TB version. We have always advised using TB with official, supported TB versions.
