== Notes ==

=== 2019 planning ideas ===
* We already have a budget ($6K for marketing and $3K for small events)
* didn't do a lot of release parties last year. Ask approximately $500 per
event.
* Marketing Plan
* ACTION:Create a marketing plan! Caroline, Britt and Nuritzi take a stab
at this on Sat, Jan 5th
* Social media:
* We wrote an article and should post it on social media:
https://www.gnome.org/news/2019/01/2018-year-end-summary/
* Can we do a newcomers post asap? Sri and Carlos are working on a list of
people and will be sending them stickers and maybe even a t-shirt.
* for shipping SWAG, we just have to be careful about shipping costs /
customs because shipping large items can be $$$ and get stuck.
*'''ACTION:''' two lists - one for SWAG, one for newcomers to GNOME
* Social media picked up again at the end of 2018 when Britt started to
post more. Really trying to avoid negativity and keep it all positive.
Foster a non-competitive personality. So far has been good and has seen a
lot of positive feedback. We're moving in the right direction and would
like to see that keep moving forward in 2019. Not only do we need to keep
fostering good will, but we need to also help when there are important (and
perhaps controversial) decisions made
* We should encourage members of our community to get help before posting
on their blogs, especially when they are big updates. Things posted on
Planet GNOME seem official.
* People want to know what GNOME 4 will be. Right now there isn't an answer
about that. Just GTK4 but not shell.
We should give people a taste for what's happening in 2019 to get people
excited and intersted in joining
https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/Wayland/GnomeShell/GnomeShell4
* The main social media channels are: Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit
* Strategy:
 * Goals: Get new contributors, increase funding, announce internships,
good PR (there has been a lot of negativity in the past)
 *ACTION: Find out what our budget is for our social media
 * Need to attract newcomers to the Engagement team
   * We should update the list of who is on the Engagement team:
https://etherpad.gnome.org/p
Engagement_Directory <https://etherpad.gnome.org/p/Engagement_Directory>
 * Events:
   * We should advertise for events better:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Engagement/Events
   * We need to figure out how we can best support local organizers
   * Through SWAG, through money for small events, etc
   * Improve RFC process
    * This is already something people (Carlos, Federico) are working on,
but we need to work on this too
    *ACTION: Invite Carlos to one of our meetings

=== FOSDEM ===
 * GNOME will have a booth there. Purism is going to show off GTK on mobile
 * It would be nice to have some media contacts and have interviews there,
etc
 *ACTION: Reach out to media contacts and try to set something up for us at
FOSDEM. If they can't go to that, then maybe go to SCALE
 *' ACTION: Need to follow up with Kat and Bastian and see if they have
everything they need for FOSDEM
 * ACTION:' Whoever can meet at FOSDEM for a mini Engagement hackfest. Plan
another hackfest maybe around SCALE 17x. https://wiki.gnome.org/Hackfests

=== Annual Report ===
 * We'll start the annual report soon. Kristi will help with that. Should
have an email within the next week about that.
* Kristi and Britt will be co-project-managing for this year
* Sri has started to put tags and labels to help sort out pictures
throughout the year
