Greetings all; Couple problems with my shaft at the center of tilt idea, so I could use a two stage drive, from motor to tilt axis, 2nd stage from tilt axis to worm drive, that way tilt could be changed w/o having to change belts and move the motor as it tilts. With the pivot point fixed, the only thing needed is a home switch, rehoming it after a tilt change.
Problem #1 is the close proximity of the worm mounting flange and the adjuster/locking screw buried in a slot to the centering dimple, I don't have room enough for more than about an 8mm shaft for the idler pulley. Problem #2 is the lack of an independent locking method for this flanges rotation which is also the worm backlash adjustment, all it has is a shitty screw to lock the rotation, which can be loosened and the backlash removed, but tightening the screw pulls it back to the original position. This flange is about 8mm thick, so I'm considering adding a C shaped bracket that thick carrying a couple 4mm screws which will bear on a couple notches gnawed in the edge of the flange, and replacing the locking screw with a much more precisely made screw with a couple belleview washers so the rotation could be adjusted after tightening the locking screw to compress the washers. I might be able to trim or notch the edge of the flange to make room for a 10mm idler shaft, and build the idler pulley assembly on beyond the flanges thickness. I'm thinking a good sized timing pulley with a much smaller gear on its inside face, driving a larger gear on the worm shaft. Diddling tooth counts to get good backlash so no belt tightening idlers would be needed. Or would I get better backlash with a timing belt and an idler to tighten the belt and force a longer wrap on the smaller pulley? Or am I wasting my time trying to make a silk purse out of this sows ear? If I can't easily take out the backlash with it assembled, I am spinning my wheels, wasting time and sheckels.
