It probably might be best to buy a new kind of motor and driver.  Maybe
more cost-effective.  But to select a motor you need to know more than just
the physical size (NEMA34).    You need to know how much torque and speed
is required as well.

If you are going to use step/direction type interface then there is another
new technology -- "closed loop steppers" that are lower cost.
Stepper-online has a few in NEMA34 size.    They run cool and are silent

The best part about step/direction is the servo loop and be VERY fast
because they are using DSP chips, not software on a PC.
