Interesting set of tables. I note the recommended turning speeds are, for
the diameters of bolts etc I might work with, are far beyond the rpms I
can thread accurately. 100-170 meters a minute. I'll have to cut some
air and see how fast I can go. Coolant mandatory I'd expect. That means
a full circle cover to recover the coolant cause it will be thrown
vigorously.

I also note that ISCAR, of all people, do not make the smaller 08 sized
inserts, their listing starting at 11. And that they do not even make an
insert suitable for making a 10 tpi (50 thou wide) thread. So I'll have
to grind my own tool. That I've already done, tested on plastic water
pipe, but not on this SS barrel steel yet. Due to the threads pitch,
needs clearance at the leading edge, making it quite fragile. So my test
cuts in plastic are at a 5 thou DOC per cycle look great, but I expect
I'll need a 2 or 3 thou DOC to do this SS. GCode already written for
that except I'll need a tool change in the middle of it.

If I regrind another tool, what would be a suitable angle for the leading
edge relief at 10 tpi, and about 1.1" in diameter? Seems like there
should be a formula for that.

I learned a bit about tool table entries while making a dozen 8mmx1.0
brass bolts in various lengths, and I'll cut more plastic getting this
right before I even think about mounting a $465 barrel to do it once.
But I'm not sure I am using the z offsets correctly as the backplots in
axis aren't registered on-screen when the cuts are.

Thanks Andy.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
