I have already downloaded the desktop image for an Odroid-C2, which

So lets get on the same page. The X server will be running on the 
Odroid-C2, (or on that old P4 dell if the Odroid is too big a problem) 
which will be running armbian*-21, or in te case of the dell, a std 
wheezy+linuxcnc install which its already running well, and is also 
uptodate a/o 3 or 4 hours ago..
