There's a Barber Coleman 1-1/2 gear hobber on eBay in Oklahoma City. Buy
it now for $450.

It's a small machine, easily fit into a small shop. The catch is it only
does gears up to 1" diameter.

Individually motorizing and computer controlling each of the moving
parts could expand its capabilities, or at least remove the need for the
synchronizing geartrain between the gear being cut and the hob.

If it was capable of making larger gears I'd be real tempted to drive
the 1,500 miles to get it.
